BOOK RESPONSES FOR EVERY LEARNER!
Although you will be reading several books each nine week, you must complete only ONE book response. You may choose which response to complete, but you must choose a different one each nine weeks. I expect BEAUTIFUL WORK. Take your time. Be neat. Be creative. Your book response should let me know that you have not only read your entire book, but thought critically about it.
CREATE A CHARACTER FACEBOOK PAGE
Create a fake MySpace or Facebook page for one of the story’s main characters. You may choose the protagonist or antagonist. Create a page with: writing and images which reflect the character’s interests or personality, a picture of the character, at least five widgets that reflects their interests or likes/dislikes, a “friends” section with at least five members, five “notes” and “wall posts” written from the character’s perspective that demonstrate the character’s perception of various events in the book. You will also complete a brief reflection form on this book and project.
MUSIC TO OUR EARS…CREATE A BOOK SOUNDTRACK
Create a soundtrack for your book by selecting at least five songs which represent characters at various points in the book, events in the book, and the theme of the book. You should include a copy of the lyrics for each song and a brief rationale which explains why you selected the song and how it relates to the book. If possible, you will actually create this CD.
DIRECT (AND EVEN STAR IN A) TRAILER FOR THE BOOK
Create a trailer for the book. This may be an audio trailer or a movie trailer. It should give an idea of the story’s characters, conflicts, and settings. You may use actors and actresses. You will complete a brief reflection form for the book and your project.
CREATE A COMIC STRIP
Create a comic book which depicts your book’s characters, conflicts and main events, and setting. You will include key lines from the book and creative illustrations of each character. You will create an intro page which includes an illustration and explanation of each character. Each chapter of the book should be given at least three frames of the comic book.
READING JOURNAL
You will complete a reading journal as you read the book in which you answer a series of questions about each chapter and reflect on the book. The responses may include your opinions of the book, thoughts about how it relates to your life, and answers to questions about the author’s style or character’s actions.
BE A CRITIC- WRITE A REVIEW!
After reading your book, you will write a review of a book which summarizes the story, gives an overview of each of the main characters, and then make a recommendation about whether others should read your book (with supporting ideas). You will complete a rough draft using guiding questions and then publish your final draft on a website where others may use your review to make a decision about reading or purchasing the book.
MAP IT! (if your book occurs at many geographical locations)
As you read your story you will keep track of the various locations in which events in your story unfold. After, you will map the travels of your book’s characters (either on paper or on Google maps) and write a brief entry/blog about the locations history and how it’s significant to the story. You will also complete a brief reflection form on the book and project.
